Did you know that when women give birth they also dump their toxic load as well?

But I’m not toxic?!

We all have some form of a toxic load due to what we put into and onto our bodies and are exposed to environmentally in our daily lives [2].

What is a toxic load?

Toxic load is a toxin that is a synthetic chemical or poison known to have harmful effects on the body.

We expose ourselves to toxins every day via:

  • Cleaning products
  • Polluted air
  • Personal care products
  • Chemical processing and spray in foods and our water supply
  • Alcohol, caffeine, drugs recreational and prescribed and even some supplements that are over the counter cheap versions made from poor quality ingredients
  • Chemicals sprayed on our earth e.g. glyphosate in Roundup

These toxins are dumped by the body during childbirth.  So, while the mum gets a good clean out, the babies don’t always get the best welcoming. Unfortunatley the firstborn bares the brunt of often a lifetime worth of mum's built up toxins.

This can lead to many allergies and immune problems in babies. Toxic load in pregnant women is now also linked to premature birth, low birth weight, and birth defects [1].

But why can’t our bodies cope?

Our bodies have a natural way of cleansing ourselves of these toxins by using the liver pathways. After the liver has done it detoxifying process, the toxins are excreted out of the liver. The gall bladder is then stimulated to secrete bile on the toxin, allowing the system to digest it. This then gets expelled out of our bodies through bowel motions i.e poo [3]

However, if the detoxification pathways within the liver can’t keep up with the amount of toxins coming in, the toxins get recycled into the bloodstream instead of being excreted out of the body [3]. Thus making us feel tired, grumpy and irritable as well as affecting many systems/organs inside of us, personal behaviour and mood, digestive function, skin quality, cognitive function and absorption of nutrients from our food to name the only a few [3].

This is the same bloodstream that nourishes our growing babies during utero, and it's these unprocessed toxins that are dumped during childbirth.

So it’s a great idea to detox your body as much as possible before even trying to conceive. This goes for both woman and men!

How can you reduce this toxic load in your body for your baby?

There are a number of things that you can do in your everyday to help reduce the toxins in your body so that your baby doesn't end up with the burden of trying to process them. Some of these are:

  • Wearing cotton clothing (organic where possible) to help reduce to chemical exposure.
  • Doing a cleanse before conception- juice/fasting/ bone broth.
  • Avoiding areas that have been recently sprayed with toxins (eg. parks, footpaths) or environments with high levels of airborne toxins.
  • Using natural based cleaning products without harsh chemicals.
  • Having many indoor plants at home to clean the air.
  • Eating certified organic or spray free food as much as possible.
  • Exercising and sweating! This helps to draw toxins out through the skin.
  • Getting checked regularly by our practitioners at The Healing Room.

How We Can Help You at The Healing Room

At The Healing Room we use muscle testing (Applied Kinesiology) to screen for toxins present in the body.

As part of our holistic care we provide lifestyle and dietary guidance based upon what’s showing up in your unique body and where necessary can prescribe natural supplements to speed up the detoxification process and help draw out many more toxins that are hidden deep in cells.

This, in conjunction with chiropractic care and NET in our sessions help to ensure that your nervous system and all the other systems in your body are functioning at their best to support the body to deal with and process toxins naturally.
